Harry Tracy movie DVD: See Gordon Lightfoot as an actor! Lightfoot plays the sheriff in this DVD, in his only movie role. (He also played a guest lead role on an episode of the TV series Hotel). The movie also includes Lightfoot's recording of Les Pouliot's My Love For You. Lightfoot covered several other Pouliot songs very early in his career. The song is available only here, on the video soundtrack; no soundtrack CD was ever released.

Hotel Season 5 DVD: Gordon Lightfoot's other acting role, on a TV series! I like to say, this is Lightfoot playing Lightfoot, even though billed as Lightfoot playing a country music star battling alcoholism. Surely the screenwriters knew more than a little bit about Lightfoot's own struggle to give up alcohol, which he had done in 1982. This show was filmed in September, 1987, and aired on January 2, 1988. The episode is called, "Double Take." (Yes, I taped it). Now, for the first time, it is available for puchase on a DVD of the 5th season (or, if you are a Hotel fan, you can buy the entire series).

Live 8 Toronto: From the Toronto (actually Barrie), Ontario concert on July 2, 2005, we get one of Lightfoot's songs - his classic If You Could Read My Mind. You will also get a peak of him singing in the finale, just beside Neil Young.
In all honesty, it took Sean Gaynor's needling to get me to put this one up. It seems a shame that the official vidoes of the Live 8 concerts did not include all the performances, and I was reluctant to recommend this DVD. But is is a historic performance, solo and one of Lightfoot's first performances after recovering from his brush with death in 2002. There are some other good performances by Canadian artists on here, including Neil Young, Bryan Adams, Bruce Cockburn, Great Big Sea and The Tragically Hip. For the "Lighthead" who must have everything. NOTE: Right now, the only new copy is in Italy and at a high price, but there are also a few used copies available.

Midnight Special 1974: Another trip down memory lane, this DVD contains selected musical and comedy performances from the 1974 season of the TV show Midnight Special. Gordon Lightfoot performs his Billboard #1 hit, Sundown. Other musical performers are: Ike & Tina Turner,
Barry White, Sly & The Family Stone, David Essex,
The O'Jays,
Marvin Gaye,
Golden Earring,
Bill Withers,
James Brown,
Gladys Knight & B.B.King,
Maria Muldaur,
Neil Sedaka,
Redbone, and
Aerosmith.
There is also a "MORE 1974" DVD, which includes Lightfoot's performance of "If You Could Read My Mind" on the same February, 1974 Midnight Special show. That DVD cover has "Rufus" rather than "Aerosmith" on the DVD cover, and says "MORE 1974" in the top right corner. Amazingly, The links below are for both versions, and from Amazon in the US and Canada. (Cover picture is for the original 1974 version) Right now, in October, 2014, the US price is far less than the Canadian price, even when shipping is added, so Canadian buyers do check carefully.

Shakin' All Over: Canadian Pop Music in the 1960s, is a two hour documentary that captures the sounds of the 60s, from the folk music of Ian and Sylvia, and the rhythm 'n' blues of Ronnie Hawkins, to stars like Joni Mitchell, The Guess Who, Neil Young, Anne Murray, The Band, and of course Gordon Lightfoot, as well as some of Canada's brightest younger stars including Blue Rodeo, Barenaked Ladies and Sarah Harmer.
The special is full of candid interviews with more than 60 iconic figures like Gordon Lightfoot (of course), Buffy Sainte-Marie and Bruce Cockburn, who offer illuminating stories about each other. The Lightfoot content includes interview segments plus short clips of archival performances of "Canadian Railroad Trilogy," "Early Morning Rain" and "Did She Mention My Name." It also features a clip of Ron Sexsmith's cover of "If You Could Read My Mind." And, strewn throughout are mentions by other artists of Lightfoot's influence on them and on the emergence of Canadian music worldwide.
In addition to the original two hour TV broadcast, the DVD has bonus interviews with several of the key artists, including Lightfoot.

This DVD was first released in Canada in December 2007, and is now available at both Amazon Canada, as well as Amazon.com.

Tower of Song DVD: This documentary is a history of Canadian music. Needless-to-say, no history of Canadian music would be complete without a major chapter on Gordon Lightfoot. The DVD includes snippets of many of Lightfoot's TV appearances over the years, and is a delightful look at the entire Canadian music scene. For music history (or Lightfoot biography) buffs only!

Music Scene Volume 2 DVD: Music Scene was a weekly TV show during the 1969 to 1970 season. Many of the greats of that era appeared on that show, and the shows are now available on a pair of DVDs; Volume 2 contains Gordon Lightfoot. Lightfoot performed just two songs, For Lovin' Me and Saturday Clothes, but if you are a devoted fan, you will want to have this wonderful slice of Lightfoot music history.
